Witch – A Magical Character or Book
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
This book is magical in so many ways. Magical setting, magical characters and magical story. This book is pure magical cotton candy in book form.
Werewolf – The Perfect Book to Read at Night
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
A hauntingly perfect book for an evening in.
Frankenstein – A Book That Truly Shocked You
The Troop by Nick Cutter
Think Lord of the Flies combined with tapeworms.
The Devil – A Dark, Evil Character
The Shining by Stephen King
Wanna talk evil characters? Well, that’s what you get at the Overlook Hotel.
Grim Reaper – A Character That Should Never Have Died
Tomorrow by Damian Dibben
Historical fiction mixed with a bit of fantasy. A very old dog searching the world for his master. There’s a lot of death in this book, but one hit me particularly hard. I might have had a some trouble reading through the tears.
Zombie – A Book That Made You Hungry For More
NOS4A2 by Joe Hill
This wasn’t my first introduction to Joe Hill’s work, but it definitely made me hungry for even more of his wonderful work. After reading this book, I jumped right into The Fireman!
Gargoyle – A Character You Would Protect At All Costs
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman
All of them. They are all characters I want to protect at all costs. I will protect this book. This book makes me happy and brings me much comfort.
Vampire – A Book That Sucked the Life Out of You
Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix
I tried reading this book and even though it is a short read I HAD TO dnf it. Nobody was likeable at all, and they all just drained my good mood. Talk about emotional vampires.
Ghost – A Book That Still Haunts You
IT by Stephen King
IT didn’t haunt me for the spooks but for the triggers. After reading about a certain character’s death, I had to put down the book for three months.
Demon – A Book That Really Scared You
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
I don’t really get scared by what I read or see – I believe after years of consuming horror I have been desensitized. The reaction you can get out of me – if you want me to get a proper reaction – is anxiety and a depressive episode. Such as the previously mentioned IT, but Kafka’s The Metamorphosis hits differently. Society’s expectations, my family’s expectations. Being unable to live up to these expectations due to something that is out of one’s own control and still feel like shit about it. That is scary.
Skeleton – A Character You Have A Bone To Pick With
The Harry Potter books
What can I say?
Mummy – A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time
Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko
I just absolutely adore this book. It’s beautiful.
Creepy Doll – A Cover Too Scary To Look At
Nothing but blackened teeth by Cassandra Khaw
I mean…just look at this cover.
